The J&T story begins in 1985, when Rockhampton accountants Allan Johnson and Paul Tennent started a small firm (so small that it was only us!). Tax returns were done by hand (with calculators and paper submissions), and the world of small business accounting looked very different to what it does now.
By 1990, we had outgrown our offices, and moved to the High Street location where we are today.
In 1991, Allan Johnson acquired Paul Tennent’s share of the partnership and became the sole managing partner. Fast-forward to 2002 and we opened our second office, at the beach in Yeppoon.
Since then, Johnson & Tennent has continued to grow and use the latest technology to make our small business accounting clients’ lives easier. We were one of the first accountants in Rockhampton to deliver an electronic tax return, one of the first to use BankLink to automatically process transactions and we were the first to pioneer Xero online accounting in the entire Central Queensland region.
In 2014, Andrew Stuart became a director of the firm, following 15 years of service as an accountant. 2014 also saw us merge with Ward Accounting Group in Yeppoon, to grow and service our Capricorn Coast clients just that bit better.
And then came 2015, and our 30-year celebration of being in business. Our history is still being written, but to celebrate 30 years Johnson & Tennent became J&T Accountants & Advisors – the same dedicated team with a fresh brand.
Today in the world of cloud computing, online tax returns and ever-changing compliance legislation, J&T Accountants & Advisors are dedicated to seeing our small business accounting clients secure their financial future. Read about our Client Promise here.
